Explorers Help Honor Mayor Bobby Hopewell

The Merze Tate Explorers partnered with the Boy Scouts HEROES program to honor Mayor Bobby Hopewell. Kalamazoo’s longest serving mayor was recognized by the Southern Shores chapter for his role as a community leader, Eagle Scout, and supporter of youth. The event was held at Pretty Lake Adventure Centre and Camp in Mattawan, where Hopewell served as a camper, counselor, and recurring board president.

“Anyone who knows me, knows I don’t like awards,” Hopewell said to a room of nearly 60 dignitaries and supporters. “I do what I do because others mentored me to become who I am today.”
