Explorers Interview Changemaker Uncategorized by Sonya Bernard-Hollins - April 15, 2021April 15, 20210 In partnership with the Great Michigan Reads, the Merze Tate Explorers interviewed Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, MD, MPH, FAAP, during a Zoom call. That call allowed Explorers to add a Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential person to be added to their long list of phenomenal women they have interviewed over the past decade. Members of the Explorers Book Club get an exclusive interview with Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, author of What the Eyes Don’t See. Dr. Mona laughs with Explorers when asked who would play her in a movie based on her book. The interview with members of the Explorers Book Club allowed students to dive into deep discussion as a club and each ask one question to the author. While many of their questions were thought-provoking, some were more light and fun such as “who would play you if a movie were made based on the book?” Dr. Mona said she loved comedian/actor Robin Williams and had he been alive, she would have loved him to play her role in the movie. The nearly one-hour interview provided Explorers insight on her childhood, how she overcame racism, and the courage it took to take on big government in the Flint Water Crisis.
