Explorers Make the News Uncategorized by Sonya Bernard-Hollins - December 11, 2020December 11, 20200 Congratulations to Explorers Sierra Ward and Layla Wallace! Both made local and national news on the same night for their passion for their community. Sierra was recognized on WWMT in Kalamazoo, Michigan for being among the first African American girls in the city to earn a Gold Award from Girl Scouts. This honor, the highest for a Girl Scout, came after she created bookmarks for high school seniors and senior citizens. The bookmarks helped inspire and encourage both generations to remain positive during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her dedication to their mental health was something to shout about! See the newscast HERE! Layla Wallace, the founder of Layla’s Cool Pops also was featured on ABC News along with others from across the country. Her passion for helping the homeless while baking has led to her earning awards and national accolades. Layla brought her passion for cooking and community together after an elementary school project. Her teacher encouraged youth to create something their classmates would buy and to use the funds to help others. That’s when Layla’s Cool Pops began! See the newscast HERE! GREAT JOB LADIES!!
