The Henrietta Lacks Traveling Museum will be featured in Kalamazoo November 20-21st at the Radisson Plaza Hotel and Suites, downtown Kalamazoo. Jackson curated the exhibit a few years ago after learning of his own grandmother’s connection to the woman with the famous HeLa cells. Lacks’ cells taken from her after her death from cancer, have been used around the globe for medical research and to cure diseases. The exhibit will also provide a virtual lecture by Dr. Thomas Rothstein of Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. In addition, Jackson’s grandmother, Bessie Lacks, will share her memories of her once sister-in-law and how her cells live on today. Also, participants will take part in a discussion on the book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot. For more information see the information attached.
