Fundraising Success! Uncategorized by Sonya Bernard-Hollins - January 7, 2021January 7, 20210 *Headline image: Explorers pose with Stacey Randolph-Ledbetter during the gift wrapping fundraiser. While COVID-19 held many nonprofit youth organizations hostage to virtual activities, the Explorers worked through it to provide scholarships for girls locally and abroad! During a Krispy Kreme Doughnut fundraiser and 4th annual Gift Wrapping Fundraiser, the Explorers raised enough funds to provide a full year of education to Elizabeth in Tanzania! The funds will go toward Elizabeth’s tuition, food, room and board, and some school supplies! Elizabeth will have a year of education thanks to the Explorers! Syann delivers Krispy Kreme doughnuts to Nkenge Bergan of Kalamazoo Public Schools. In addition, the funds raised will benefit Explorer high school seniors who are headed off to higher educational pursuits after graduation in June. Students also will gift one girl in the community with a scholarship toward college through an essay contact. Thank you, to the management of the Crossroads Mall in Portage, Michigan for hosting us as a gift wrap site! Also, thank you to everyone in the community who came out for doughnuts and to have their gifts wrapped! While our funds were less than in previous years due to social distancing and less in-mall interaction, the event was a success. Explorer alumna Natasha volunteers with her mom, Adiah for the gift wrapping event. Students and their families volunteer to earn credit for National Honor Society community service hours and a way to give back to youth efforts!
