Women of Color Exhibit Seeks Travel Photos

Explorers in Hawaii

When the Explorers went to Hawaii for a science-focused academy, we decided to climb Diamond Head on the last day. Lydia did not feel she could. I told her I would do it with her. We were the last Explorers to make it to the top, but Lydia made it! The photo of her smile and the hug from her mom are priceless. SUBMIT YOUR PHOTOS HERE.

Sunny Johnson and her daughter, Lydia, celebrate Lydia’s rise to the top of Diamond Head in Hawaii.

Syann and Maya recorded a report from Mt. Fuji in Japan. During a Sister City visit to Numazu, Japan, the Explorers represented Explorers in a delegation with the City of Kalamazoo.

Are you a Woman of Color who has traveled? The Merze Tate Explorers and the Black Arts and Black Arts & Cultural Center are teaming up for a Black and Black & Abroad-themed Exhibit. Women of Color are invited to share their favorite travel image (high resolution) and why that moment was memorable or life-changing. Use this link to submit by February 9th. SUBMIT YOUR PHOTOS HERE.

We will select 25 images and reach out to those with the most compelling stories to join us on a panel discussion during the exhibition opening during Art Hop on Friday, March 1st. We seek images from local, state, national, or international travel adventures. Let’s inspire young girls that the world is theirs to EXPLORE!
